St. Patrick's Day at the Mansion - Saturday, Mar. 16th ... Missing Downton Abbey? Come see us! - Free

Anyone who misses the behind-the-scenes intrigue of "Downton Abbey" will want to visit the David Davis Mansion State Historic Site on Saturday, March 16th, for a look at the lives of servants and their employers.

Costumed storytellers will portray Irish servants who worked for the Davis family at their Victorian mansion. Visitors can talk with the servants rushing to complete their chores, and then hear what the Davis family members have to say about the staff.

The free, family-friendly "Upstairs/Downstairs at Bloomington's Downton Abbey" event runs from 9am-3:30pm Saturday, March 16th.

Meet characters like Bridget, the cook, who occupies a special position in the household because she's an expert with the Magee Range. She gives the stove a workout during her daily responsibilities and she will describe how she prepares food and determines how many pieces of coal it takes to bake a cake. But visitors should be careful or they might wind up helping with the chores throughout the house!

Ongoing Exhibit

Funded by a total of $33,000 in grants from several organizations, this is the first of such major exhibits to be created in the local Lincoln legacy programs, and is housed in the Lincoln-era barn on the grounds of the David Davis Mansion. The project is sponsored by the former Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission of McLean County as part of the celebration of the Lincoln Bicentennial. The exhibit development was also supported by the Illinois Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission, the Bloomington-Normal Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Looking for Lincoln Heritage Coalition. The Heritage Association of McLean County is working with the Davis Mansion staff and Foundation to promote the exhibit and create related educational programs and special events.
